The Value of Training

How much money did your business invest last year in training and technology advancements that failed to provide the results you sought? You are not alone if training classes and products rarely resulted in the transfer of immediately useful information to your business. When it comes to training your personnel, there are several considerations to make before you start. In addition, consider allowing new employees to spend a day or two in other departments to get a feel for the entire flow of an order from start to finish.

Before going any further, decide if there is a need for the education you plan to provide for your employees. What is the additional skill or ability that you want your employees to learn? After deciding training will be necessary, provide reasons to your employees for your decision. For example, if you require your staff to attend a seminar on new software, explain to them you will be implementing the software into their department during the next several weeks. Explain to your employees that in order for a smooth transition, additional training will be needed to ensure that your customers will receive the same experience as they always have over the phone.

Training is costly. Make it clear to the department that the training you are requiring is their responsibility and they need to take it seriously. It is very possible that the training was even suggested by an individual from the department. Meet with your employees before the training to prepare them for what they must learn as well as after to see what they accomplished.

Remember, you are responsible for making sure your company or department gets its work done as efficiently and profitably as possible. By carefully choosing a training technique for your shop, this objective can be accomplished. Flower Shop Solutions offers on-site training customized for small and large flower shops. Learn more...
